Living and dying well with heart failure – how can palliative care help?

6 May 2026
Dr Sharon Chadwick discusses these challenging issues and more, explaining how the end-of-life care for heart failure patients can and should be improved. She explores how palliative care doesn't necessarily mean the end of living well for patients with heart failure.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand the potential role of palliative care in supporting heart failure patients
  • To learn about down titrating some medications to improve symptom control and reduce side effects
  • To develop an understanding of advance care planning including DNACPR & ICD deactivation
  • To gain awareness of the ethical dilemmas that might arise
  • To feel inspired to develop relationships with your local palliative care providers and work together more closely
